Our next door neighbor was all excited the other day to show us a family of four baby hedgehogs that were living in the compost pile in his back yard. We also thought they were cute and fascinating little guys. Yesterday afternoon my kids went out to play soccer in our yard but came back very quickly to tell me one of the baby hedgehogs almost got stepped on and was right in the middle of the grass! Seeing him all rolled up in a ball made me think of Alice in Wonderland and playing croquet with hedgehogs...

What to do? I got some well padded gardening gloves and carefully picked him up. It wasn't hard - he had curled himself into a tight little ball. We put him in a plastic tub and very carefully carried him back to our neighbor's compost pile, where one of his siblings was sleeping peacefully in the sun.

They are cute little guys, aren't they?

How cute!! Lucky little fellow, I've heard that they make very cute, clean pets. Of course it depends upon how big they get!!!
Please update us with pictures....

Cute but can chew on wood and stuff as grow.
Have you named him?
Thanks for the plug on my "O" audition. That was fun!
