The Leuven Bears lost their game on Sunday - boo! It was fun to go see the game, but we couldn't believe how loud it was. They were handing out horns to all the kids and we had some being blown very loudly and very often right behind us, which was not pleasant at all. I thought that was pretty bad and irresponsible of the organisers; definitely not good for anyone's ears to be exposed to that kind of noise. We finally left after the third quarter - we couldn't stand it anymore.
I'm having one of those weeks where I have something to go to everyday and it is going to be tricky and exhausting to fit everything in, including my workouts. Yesterday Linda and I spent the whole day working on the recipes for our next workshops and I never managed to get my yoga done.
Today I have to meet a friend at 11:30 and I knew I was going to have to get to the gym right at 9 when it opened to fit my interval run and weights in and have still have enough time to get back home and shower... I felt a bit stressed about it but got to the gym and got it done, and I am glad I did, otherwise it would have bugged me all day. Now I am off to meet my friend...

Braving the Wind
Encouraged by Fran and not wanting to waste another 10 C day inside, I decided to brave the wind for my run today. Even though the temperature is unseasonably warm, when I first got out there it still felt chilly with the wind blowing right through me. But I soon got warmed up and we had a great run. I had 7 km on my schedule and we ended up doing 7.1 in 47 minutes, which felt very comfortable.
After lunch we are off to see the Leuven Bears basketball game - I know, it's not the Super Bowl, but hey, we got the tickets for free!
Have a great Sunday!

Even Warmer + Yoga
At 8 this morning it was already 10 C (50 F)! Jeez! Tomorrow it is supposed to get up to 12 C - this is strange weather! While it's warm here, my mom is skiing in Dallas, Texas! It is also still super windy here. I sure hope the wind calms down by tomorrow morning for our long run, so we can enjoy running outdoors in these balmy temperatures.
We have a busy Saturday ahead of us so I got up early to do my yoga - the weekly free class from Yoga Today*. It was an hour of Hatha yoga, with some tough warrior sequences - got me nice and sweaty! Now it's time to go get the kids up for piano lessons, haircuts, and all the rest of our day. Have a great weekend!
*PS: If you are interested in getting the free class each week from Yogatoday.com, you need to sign up on the site and be logged in to access the free class. If you're not logged in, you will just see a short preview of the class at the above link.

Warm + Windy
It's been warm and extremely blustery all day today, about 9 C (48 F). I had a fartlek run on my schedule but I hate running when it's so windy - it always makes me feel like I'm going to blow right off the sidewalk. So I went to the gym, which was dead again. I got a good 6 km in and was having a great time sweating like crazy. It really doesn't take much to make me happy!
We scored tickets to a Leuven Bears basketball game on Sunday afternoon, so we have that to look forward to this weekend. Hope everyone manages to get dug out from the snow in the next few days!

Warmer + Sunshine!
It was 6 degrees C this morning and so it was warm enough to be able to bike to the gym - yay! After walking my son to school, having a cup of coffee and checking emails I headed over. It was surprisingly calm there - do you think all the "New Year's Resolution" people have given up already? Most everyone I saw there were long-time regulars...
I did a weight workout and then finished with 20 minutes on the elliptical - got nice and sweaty and then biked home. And then this afternoon the sun came out - hooray! I feel bad for everyone in most parts of the US who are stuck under all that snow, and the folks in Queensland who had to bear a tropical storm - but boy, am I glad it's better here (for the time being)...

Calm Day + Tara Stiles Yoga

My youngest had a day off school so we had a very quiet morning and did the shopping together. So nice to have company along! And he enjoys being in charge of the self scanning, which is a big help.
Later this afternoon when the house was quiet while the boys were at sports, I did the new Tara Stiles DVD from the Jane Fonda Workout Series (apparently sold out in a lot of Target stores at the morment - lucky me, I got mine back in December when I was in Texas, on my sister's recommendation). Stiles is known for the pared down, simple and clean style of yoga she teaches. There was recently a NY Times article about how she is very different from "traditional" yoga teachers and how some traditionalists have a problem with how she does things. An interesting read - I wasn't aware that the NY city yoga scene was so snobby!
Anyhow, I enjoyed the hour long DVD, the explanations were very clear, it was challenging in the sense that there are definitely some parts I will need to work up to, but at the same time, I could follow along with some adjustments. I felt good when it was done - I don't know what all the fuss is about, Stiles is a talented teacher and everyone has their own way of doing things, right?

Quiet Tuesday
The Ikea trip got cancelled because my friend wasn't feeling well, but I was fine with having a quiet day to regroup, catch up on blogs, and just putter around the house, getting those small things done that seem to pile up on busy days. Which always makes me feel more relaxed.
Since I went to the gym yesterday already, all I need to do today is yoga, which I am looking forward to treating my body to later this afternoon.
I noticed a lot of people are really glad January is done...I have to agree with that - it was too hectic and too cold in January! Although I have a busy February ahead and it probably won't be too warm either, at least it puts us a tiny bit closer to spring.
